Created in 1872, Yellowstone is the world’s oldest natural park. Its 8,983 square kilometres make it the second largest in the US, second only to Alaska’s. But Yellowstone is best known for its geothermal phenomena, hosting no less than two thirds of the Earth’s geysers, as well as numerous hot springs. |

Its wildlife includes some great mammals, such as black and grizzly bears, coyotes, wolves, elks and deer, as well as wild flocks of bison and wapitis. The park lies at the heart of a very extensive and well-preserved natural habitat, in fact one of the last ecosystems in the temperate zones. The park has been registered on the Biosphere Reserves lists since 1975 and hosts almost three million visitors each year, making it one of the US’s most popular.
