They often live alone in small countryside villages, away from relatives who have likely drifted away towards the cities in search of new horizons. Although an International Day dedicated to them exists, very few people actually remember the date.
There are almost 8 million elderly people in Spain, and this feature is a reminder that they are still here and still deserving of our attention.
